Atelier du Corps, the art of sculpting identity
Yves Lafontaine, 26 Nov 2025
Our mission is to destigmatize aesthetic care and make it accessible to every reality. Because feeling good in your body should never be an exception — and certainly not a privilege. It's a simple, essential, and universal right.

Practising in French and English · Welcoming patients from across Canada and internationally
Dr Alexis Laungani, MD, FRCSC, is one of the most experienced gender-affirming surgeons in the world. Over his career he has performed approximately 1,000 vaginoplasties, more than 1,500 gender-affirming chest surgeries (mastectomies and radical reductions), 60+ transfeminine breast augmentations, 50+ orchiectomies, 40+ chondrolaryngoplasties and dozens of scrotectomies — over 2,600 gender-affirming procedures in total. It is a level of experience very few practitioners reach in an entire career.
That command of the field is built on one of the most demanding training paths in plastic surgery. He earned his medical degree with high distinction from the University of Liège (2008), completed a six-year residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery in Europe, then trained at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota — one of North America’s most prestigious programs — completing a second full residency in integrated plastic surgery. He is double board-certified and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC), with more than twenty years of training across three continents.
He refined his genital and chest surgery practice at one of the highest-volume gender-affirming surgery centers in the world, alongside the field’s leading figures. The center is not named on marketing materials for brand separation, but the affiliation remains verifiable through his publications.
His authority extends well beyond the operating room. A member of WPATH, he moderated the "Genital AMAB" session of the WPATH 2024 Symposium surgical programme, alongside WPATH President Dr Marci Bowers. He was also invited to teach gender-affirming vaginoplasty at AIIMS Delhi (India) with Dr Bowers, as part of India’s national capacity-building programme in transgender healthcare. That programme is run with WPATH (Global Education Institute), the Association for Transgender Health in India, and Indian ministries of Social Justice, Health and NACO, toward a Centre of Excellence for Transgender Healthcare. He is lead author of reference work on preventing complications in penile-inversion vaginoplasty (Plastic and Aesthetic Research, 2022), presented "Sharing the Montreal Gender-Affirming Vaginoplasty: A 25-Year and 2,500-Case Experience" at AAPS 2022, and contributed abstracts on pudendal nerve blocks for vaginoplasty and the reconstructive vs cosmetic framing of gender confirmation surgery. His scholarly record includes approximately 28 publications and ~363 citations. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Transgender Health and has contributed chapters to surgical textbooks.
He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), The Aesthetic Society, WPATH, IMCAS, and the French Society of Plastic Surgery (SoFCPRE). He has lectured on transgender care at SoFCPRE, spoken at IMCAS Paris (2024), and was invited as an expert to the Belgian Society of Plastic Surgery in Liège (2026), in addition to WPATH and AAPS presentations. He holds an active medical licence in Belgium, is FRCSC-certified in Canada, and is listed on the UK plastic surgery register — a rare footing across three healthcare systems (North America, Europe and the UK).
Patients rate him 4.92/5 on RateMDs from 99 reviews, with 91% giving five stars. His work has been profiled in Fugues (2025), and in 2026 he launched Atelier du Corps in Montreal, a clinic with a private operating suite and dedicated recovery suites designed for complete, discreet care from the first conversation through recovery.
